Comparison of different structures for a monthly water yield model in seasonally snow-covered mountainous watersheds of Iran

چکیده
This paper attempts to search for a suitable structure of a monthly water yield model applicable for seasonally snowcovered mountainous catchments located in a semiarid area. In this respect several model structures based on a soil water balance concept were compared. The main distinction between the different structures was made by the inclusion of either a linear or a nonlinear transformation element for the conversion of overland flow or baseflow into total runoff. A combined water balance model having two main elements, a soil storage element generating excess water, and a transformation element conceptualized by a linear storage-discharge relationship, was found to be the most accurate. Open for discussion until 1 April 1991 535 M. Moussavi et al. 536

Assessment of the Monthly Water Balance in an Arid Region Using TM Model and GIS (Case Study: Pishkouh Watershed, Iran)
Monthly discharge is one of the most important factors considered in designs and hydrological works. Some watersheds are not equipped with needed hydrometric equipment. In such a case average monthly discharge could be estimated from regional monthly water balance models of representative watersheds. In this study, Thornthwaite & Mather (TM) model were used in the Pishkouh watershed in arid cli...

Hydrological models provide water managers with the available amount of water in the watershed. In this paper, we firstly developed a system dynamics model to calculate the available amount of water in the watershed. Then, we defined two scenarios one of which is the development scenario describing how land use changes can affect water availability in the watershed. Next, we divided the watersh...
متن کاملModeling of monthly flow duration curve using nonlinear regression method for un-gauged watersheds of Ardabil Province
The flow duration curve (FDC) represents the frequency distribution of water flow over a period of time, which is widely used in hydrology to evaluate different ranges of river water flow applications. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a suitable estimation model and method in un-gauged watersheds. To this end, in the present study, a modeling method based on nonlinear regression, for the p...
متن کاملSeasonal versus transient snow and the elevation dependence of climate sensitivity in maritime mountainous regions
[1] In maritime mountainous regions, the phase of winter precipitation is elevation dependent, and in watersheds receiving both rain and snow, hydrologic impacts of climate change are less straightforward than in snowmelt‐dominated systems. Here, 29 Pacific Northwest watersheds illustrate how distribution of seasonal snow, transient snow, and winter rain mediates sensitivity to 20th century war...

One of the problems of some cities in the country, especially those in the vicinity of mountainous watersheds, is the containment and control of runoff, erosion and sedimentation that results in many damages to downstream facilities and infrastructure each year. Watershed operations have been proposed for years to reduce and mitigate destructive effects, and some measures have been taken ...
